July 2, 2021, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte - Gov. Damian G. Mercado, together with Vice-Gov. Coco Yap, some SP Board members, Mayor Reynaldo C. Fernandez, and DA-RFO8 RTD Larry Sultan, attended the opening of the SaMa-SaMa Meat shop, owned and operated by the Samahan ng Magbubukid ng Manalog (SaMa-SaMa), this municipality.
The shop is owned and operated by SaMa-SaMa whose members are also engaged in native chicken production, hog production, and hog fattening livelihood projects, which are funded by the PLGU Southern Leyte, under the supervision of the Provincial Veterinary Office and Hinunangan LGU.
The activity also showcased the marketing of products produced by various groups engaged in livelihood projects funded by either the Provincial Government or DA-RFO8, including: bangus in fish cage production, tilapia production, corn, sweet potato, mungbean, and feeds production under Pangandam sa Bag-ong Panahon Program; balut and ducklings production under PRDP I-REAP; salted eggs production under SAAD.
In 2020, the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte implemented Pangandam sa Bag-ong Panahon, a package of livelihood and employment-generating projects to help cushion the negative impact of COVID-19 and to help the province attain food security.
