MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Nov. 9 (PIA) -- Around 60 sports delegates from Maasin City will participate in the Philippine National Games-Visayas Qualifying Leg to be held in Antique province, November 10-14, 2015.

City Sports Council staff Daryl Cinco reported that Maasin City delegation include coaches, trainers and athletes. The players, 16 years and above will compete on the following events: archery, boxing, swimming, badminton, billiards, taekwando, chess, muay thai, pencak selat and athletics.

It was learned from the Philippine National Games website that the venue for athletics events will be held at the EBJ Memorial Sports Complex; archery at the Antique National School field; badminton at St. Anthony’s College; boxing at Macapagal-Arroyo Stadium; chess at the Department of Education rooftop; karatedo at Antique National School covered court; billiards at the San Jose Billiards Hall; arnis at Delegate Angel Salazar Elementary School; swimming at the Binirayan swimming pool; taekwondo at the Evelio B. Javier Gym; pencak silat at the University of Antique Sibalom Campus; weightlifting at the Evelio B. Javier Memorial Park; Muay Thai at Assemblyman Segundo Moscoso Memorial School.

Cinco further said that the gold and silver medalists from the PNG-Visayas Qualifying Leg will qualify to the PNG-National games which will be conducted on May next year.

Maasin City government through Sports Council Chairman Mayor Maloney Samaco has prepared cash incentives for the medalists of the national events, not to mention the locally initiated games; Php3,000 for the gold medalists; Php2,000 – silver and the bronze medalist will receive Php1,000, Cinco further said.

Mayor Samaco is expected to grace the Maasin City Sports Delegates during the opening ceremony, it was learned. (rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
