MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Oct. 13 (PIA) – The city government of Maasin through the leadership of Mayor Maloney Samaco celebrated on October 5-9 the LGU Day/Fun Day thru sports competition.

A Holy Mass at the city gymnasium kicked-off the week-long activity participated by the city officials and employees, said Maasin City sports council staff Zaldy Olita.

The singing of each teams' banner song followed which signified the start of the team competition from four competing teams: Orange, Blue, Fuchsia Pink, and Radiant Orchid, he said.

Different sports event were lined up such as volleyball, basketball, walkathon, bike competition, swimming, including modern dance contest, instant videoke, among others.

"It was a different way of sports competition," Olita informed. He said that all able employees can really participate in the events, saying that volleyball and basketball games, men and women are competed by age category for the 4 quarters.

Like in basketball, the 1st quarter was played by those age 30 and below; 31-40 years old for the 2nd quarter; 41-50 for the 3rd quarter; and 51 and above for 4th quarter, Olita reported. While for the volleyball, a total of 60 points will be played for the whole game, the first 15 points was played by 30 years and below; 31-40 for the next 16-30 points; age 41-50 for 31-45 points and the 46-60 points will be played by those 51 years old and above, Olita added.

He further added that the bike contest is also "pildi gana," meaning that the slowest biker will be the one to win.

"It was fun and full of excitement," Olita bared, though work from the city hall was not stopped, only those who played went out for their game schedule, he added.

On the other hand, Mayor Maloney Samaco in an interview over radio station DyDM, proudly quoted the city employees to be known as "Tatak: MAASIN", as M for manageable, A for action, another A - allegiance, S – services, I for industrious, and N as in no smoking and no drugs. (rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
