MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte September 29 (PIA) – Southern Leyte will get three 2-classroom schoolbuildings under the auspices of the American Chamber (AMCHAM) Foundation, Philippines, Inc. this year.

In a simple groundbreaking ceremony held at Maasin Central School last Saturday September 19, AMCHAM Foundation representative Jocelyn Palacpac said they look forward not only for the proper utilization of the donation but also its social impact to the community.

She said , during an interview with the local media, that the groundbreaking marks the start of the countdown of the 90 days construction period of the said schoolbuilding and that the schoolbulding should be completed and turned-over to the school by December 2015, she added.

Each schoolbuilding costs P1.096M, Palacpac disclosed.

The two other recipient schools in the province are Tambis I Elementary School in St. Bernard and Sogod SPED Center in Sogod town.

Meanwhile, Maasin Central School (MCS) will accommodate the kindergarten classes in the two classrooms that will soon be built in their premises as one of the recipients of the donations of the AmCham Foundation, MCS Principal Hilario Genovia disclosed.

He said that though there is enough classrooms at MCS these were worn out since these were built in decades already, hence, the new schoolbuilding is just what they need. They also expect more enrollees for the kindergarten classes to increase in the future, he added.

The groundbreaking ceremony was also graced with the presence of Maasin City Mayor Maloney Samaco, ABC Provincial Federation President Hon. Nikko Mercado and officials of the Maasin City Division and the teaching staff. (ajc/PIA8 SoLeyte)
