MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, May 6 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Southern Leyte set the First Agriculture Summit, May 7, 2015 with its theme dubbed as, "Towards Food Security Amidst Climate Change and ASEAN Integration."

The activity scheduled to be held at the Lourdes Convention Center, this city aims at outlining strategies to improve the productivity as well as the income in Southern Leyte, the source said.

The Agriculture Summit organized through the Provincial Agriculture and Services Office (PAgSO) prepares topics such as the High Value Crops Industry Opportunities which will

emphasize the current situation, recent trends and best practices in increasing crops productivity; and Livestock and Poultry, Fisheries and Seaweeds Industries Opportunities that will also include the current situation and recent trends to improve the productivity of both sectors.

The organizing group invited Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office-8 Assistant Regional Director Dr. Wilson A. Cerbito who will deliver his keynote address, while Gov. Roger G. Mercado and Cong. Damian G. Mercado will deliver their welcome messages for the participants of the day activity.

Among other speakers invited during the undertaking are Dr. Antonia Cecilia Y. Sandoval, Visayas State University (VSU) Dean of Department of Agriculture and Food Science; Dr. Guindolino R. Gerona, an Agri-Entrepreneur; and Ms. Irma F. Ortiz, National Seaweed Coordinator from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)- Central Office.

The participants during the agriculture summit include representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), National Food Authority (NFA), Provincial Environment and Natural Resources and Management Office (PENRMO), media practitioners, PAgSO personnel, among others.
