MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Apr 25 (PIA) -- The National Food Authority (NFA)-Southern Leyte Provincial Office is now aggressive in its palay procurement activities starting April 13, 2015, Information Officer Designate Elisa Almacin informed.

She said that NFA is aiming for an aggressive procurement operations, in order to procure palay from legitimate farmers at P17.00 per kilo. "Our office is giving incentives to the farmers such as delivery fee of P0.20/kilo, drying fee of P0.20/kilo and Cooperative Development Incentives Fee (CDIF) of P0.30/kilo."

Almacin added that NFA procured palay totaling to 113 bags from April 13-19, 2015 from its accredited farmers association in the municipality of Sogod, the MEGA Irrigators Association and the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries-MPC in the town of Hinunangan.

She said that the food agency of the government is committed to support the farmers, thus appealing to the local chief executives through the Local Agricultural Officers to help the agency in the said procurement operations.

NFA-Southern Leyte is also urging farmers to produce more to sustain the province as well as the country's rice-self-sufficiency while also committing to to serve the farmers and consumers-stakeholders as well. (ajc/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
