MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, April 22 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Southern Leyte through Gov. Roger Mercado created a Search Committee for the Southern Leyte's Most Environment–Friendly LGUs as one of the highlights of the upcoming 55th Southern Leyte Founding Anniversary this July.
The search committee is composed of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Management Office as chairman and co-chaired by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Members of the search committee are DILG, DENR-PENRO, Diocesan Social Action Center for the non-government organization, Southern Leyte State University for the academe and the Philippine Information Agency to represent the media.
PERMO Department Head Dr. Eva Abad in a statement said that the committee will conduct assessment and evaluation of the municipalities and barangays to select the awardees. Awarding will be done during the Founding Anniversary celebration.
It was learned that the province' top policy is to ensure an ecologically-balanced province in order to achieve sustainable development through tourism, environment and agriculture.
With the leadership of Gov. Mercado, the provincial government has mainstreamed environment and natural resources management, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management in its development roadmap to respond to the challenges of climate change, Abad quoted LGU Executive Order No. 015 or the creation of the search committee.
On April 21, the search committee will meet to finalize the criteria and the schedule of evaluations of the local government units. (jrc/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
