MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, March 19 (PIA) - The Provincial Inter-Agency Action Team (PIAC) of Southern Leyte headed by Gov. Roger G. Mercado and in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office 8 led by Deputy Program Manager Eubolo Co, converged in March 17 to present updates and ccomplishments on the government's programs and projects related to poverty.

Gov. Mercado who was the guest speaker during the day activity held at the RKK Function Room here said that works of the Social Welfare department can't be underestimated, saying that, "it is Presidents Aquino's vision to improve the lives of the poor, Pope Francis' cry to serve the poor and the province vision to alleviate the lives of our constituents."

He said that the convergence of different concerned agencies is an urgent matter in order to address the problem of poverty.

The governor added that DWSD is the most felt agency in the government – provincial and city level. "Sometimes it is better to tell what has been truly done, and in fact, I did not fail to inform your boss – Secretary Dinky Soliman, regarding your work throughout Southern Leyte which is bringing assistance to our poor constituents," addressing the DSWD personnel who were present.

He further said that the provincial government is the extension of Secretary Soliman, while the DSWD is the extension of President Aquino. " We are confident that the programs of DSWD are implemented effectively."

The PIAC convergence meeting was also participated by the DSWD Provincial Link for Southern Leyte, among other program coordinators, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers, SWD Provincial Officer Luzviminda Rosete, and her staff, partner-agencies such as the Philippine National Police, Department of Education, the Philippine Information Agency, to name a few.

The undertaking tackled updates and accomplishments of the following programs: Kalahi-CIDSS, Pantawid Pampamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Bottoms-Up Budgeting (BUB), Enhanced Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, Social Pension, among other related programs. (ajc/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
