MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Mar 16 (PIA) – ABC Provincial Federation President Nacional V. Mercado shared the best practices implemented on the Nutrition Program when a team of health personnel from Naval, Biliran visited the province, Thursday.
In behalf of the province and the City of Maasin, Mercado, the Chairman of Barangay Abgao, in Maasin City presented its programs and projects at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall and how they successfully garnered the zero-malnourished children.
"Constant communication among the parents, barangay officials, among other health personnel such as the Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars should be done to monitor the status of the children particularly those with malnourished kids," he bared.
Among the impact projects implemented for the nutrition program are micronutrient supplementation, nutrition information, communication and education like the "Pabasa sa Nutrisyon," mothers classes, lactating and pregnant mothers' classes, promoting healthy lifestyle, food production at home and in school.
Mercado informed further during his presentation that the "Gulayan sa Paaralan, "Magulay and Bahay," and the adopt-a-malnourished child programs are some of the leading interventions for an improved nutrition in the city and the province as well.
"Barangay Abgao gained an award for being a zero malnourished with the united efforts of the barangay officials and with the support of the city government and the provincial government," he said.
He added that Barangay Abgao Barangay Nutrition Scholar was also awarded as the Regional Outstanding BNS.
The Biliran team with around 40 personnel was led by Naval Municipal Health officer Dr. Fernando Montejo, it was learned. (ajc/esg/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
