MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Sept. 8 (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office and Provincial ENRO conducted a Climate Change Advocacy Campaign in Barangay Asuncion, this city, September 8, 2014.

He added that mitigation and adaptation are two different things with regards to climate change, saying that "mitigation is to reduce the effects of climate change while adaptation is to adjust our practices to respond to the problems of climate change."
On the other hand, Benjase Lumen from the Office of the City General Services focused on the Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) system which is a systematic administration of activities such as segregation, transportation, storage, transfer, processing, treatment and the final disposal of wastes.
He said that factors that can contribute to the solid waste problem are the increasing of population, rapid urbanization, indifference, consumption matters and the change of lifestyle.
Among other resource speakers include Engr. Michael Samaco form Maasin City Emergency Response Team, who reported that Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) is now integrated to climate change.
The CCA advocacy campaign was participated by the barangay officials, Purok Presidents and some representatives from different organizations of Barangay Asuncion led by Chairman Narciso Montalbo Jr. (aen/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
