MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- Security and peace and order in the city was successfully maintained as big celebrations unfolded in the lively, exciting month of August, the 22nd Charter Day and fiesta.

This was proudly reported by Police Lt. Col. Vicente Bullecer Jr., the city’s chief of police, in an interview over Kapihan sa PIA live over radio station DYDM Friday, August 26.

Bullecer said he considered it his baptism of fire in planning for the security preparations and actual implementation for the impending guests since he was just assigned as city’s top cop on August 3.

By that time the invited visitors have confirmed their intent at coming for the cityhood anniversary on August 10 and a religious-based event leading to the traditional fiesta on August 15.

As scheduled, Vice President and concurrent Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte did show up on August 10 for the Charter Day anniversary program, then by next day, August 11, two senators, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and Robin Padilla arrived for the distribution of cash aid to motorcab drivers.

On August 12, another dignitary from the Catholic Church, the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles John Brown, came for the canonical coronation of the blessed Virgin on August 13, an important milestone for the Catholic belief.

Bullecer said he was happy and grateful that no untoward incident marred the coming of the guests and the succeeding days until they had departed, thanking everyone for their cooperation and support which he viewed as vital for the preservation of peace and order and security in the city.
