MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- A total of 23 youngsters who were graduates of Grade 12 from various places around the province secured a scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).

An orientation on scholarship guidelines and policies, on the new and exciting direction in life they will have to take, was recently held for them at the SP Function Hall, provincial legislative building and, together with their parents, a contract signing was consequently held.

“The participants were warmly welcomed by Southern Leyte Provincial Science and Technology director, Engr. Florita Santiago," the DOST provincial office said in a social media post.

The students were chosen through an online assessment held in February last year, a time when the pandemic was raging, but results were only known by June 14 this year, Santiago said.

Conducting the orientation was Dr. Ramil Uy, center manager of the Science and Technology Human Resource Development Promotion and Information Center, who was also the regional scholarship technical coordinator, along with Joshua Catubao, scholarship project staff.

Uy told PIA in a casual chat that the qualified students may take any course of their choosing as long as it is science-related, and that the course was included in a menu prepared by DOST. (LDL/MMP/PIA Southern Leyte)
