MACROHON, Southern Leyte (PIA) -- The local government unit here is conducting a series of mass blood-letting campaign through its health workers in close coordination with the Philippine Red Cross provincial chapter on June 7-9.

The three-day activity was timed in the run-up for the global observance of World Blood Donation Day on June 14 with the theme, “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”

The mass blood-letting campaign begins Tuesday, June 7 in Brgy. Ichon, then June 8 at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) municipal covered court, and on June 9 in Brgy. San Roque.

The marathon campaign is aimed at promoting wide public awareness on the need to save the lives of others by giving a drop of one’s blood, especially for those suffering from debilitating diseases such as cancer.

The LGU called on residents, and those from other places who are interested to volunteer, to respond to the campaign as a way of giving back or paying forward in terms of helping others mostly in critical, emergency life and death situations. (LDL/MMP with reports from Dahlia Orit/RP)
