MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- Some 116 individuals, all residents from barangay Kahupian, Sogod, received assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment - Regional Office 8 (DOLE-8) in the form of Kabuhayan starter kits with a total cost of P1.6 million.

This was reported by Joel Aba, a ranking staff at the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV).

“Barangay Kahupian is an identified barangay of the provincial Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) under the government’s Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC),” Aba said during the Laging Handa Network Briefing program Friday hosted by Secretary Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

According to Aba, the projects awarded to beneficiaries included the following: carpentry, welding, vulcanizing, dressmaking, barber shop, poultry farming, and food retail businesses.

“These livelihood projects were charged under the DOLE integrated livelihood program (DILP) funds of the region,” Aba further said.

Present during the simple turnover ceremony, it was learned, were Henry John Jalbuena, DOLE regional director; Marites Vinas, DOLE provincial director; Sogod Mayor Imelda Tan; Rufo Olo, municipal councilor and chair of the Sangguniang Bayan Livelihood Committee; and Staff Sgt.
