MAASIN CITY, May 26 (PIA) -- The city government of Maasin has successfully launched the “Young and Rooted: Youth Initiative for Food Sustainability” project, Mayor Nacional V. Mercado said in his Facebook Account.

The project which was launched in the city on May 20, 2021 was initiated by the Sangguninang Kabataan (SK) Federation to ensure that the youths in the barangays have enough skills on gardening.

“The said project will also empower the young and inculcate sustainable influence as well as preferences on food sustainability during this time of pandemic,” Mayor Mercado said.

The four-month project aims to have an access to healthy and culturally appropriate food during this pandemic and to empower the youths towards the importance of having knowledge and skills in providing food.

The said project also targeted to encourage and promote the use of recyclable materials in gardening and to help improve the quality of life by respecting the environment and promoting the interconnection of all things, Mayor Mercado said.

The opening and launching activity held at the Liga ng Barangay Office was participated in by Sangguniang Panglungsod Ex-Officio Member/SK Federation President Shane Valerie Roa, Youth Development Officer III Ray John Hatayna and youth leaders as participants. (ldl/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
