MAASIN CITY, May 26 (PIA) -- Some four Maasin City barangays are beneficiaries of the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority’s (PhilFIDA) Abaca Production Technology in partnership with the local government of Maasin, the local government unit of Maasin City said in its official Facebook page post.
These four barangay-beneficiaries include Tigbawan, Basak, Lonoy and barangay Canyuom.
“There are a total of 100 farmer-beneficiaries listed in those four barangays,” the LGU FB page post added.
PhilFIDA will provide the farmer-beneficiaries the following tools and materials: 1,100 pieces of abaca seed-derived planting materials; nine (9) bags of fertilizer for the whole year of 2021; two (2) liters of pesticides; 1,100 pieces sticks for staking activities; and two (2) pieces farm tools such as bolo and digging bar.
The PhilFIDA will also allocate funds for logistics and two tranches of labor subsidy.
On the other hand, 40 of these farmers will also undergo six months of training under the Climate-Smart Field School on Abaca Production Technology.
It was learned that the local government unit of Maasin signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with PhilFIDA for the establishment of a 100-hectare abaca plantation.
The MOA signing coincided with the launching of the Climate-Smart Field School on Abaca Production held recently. (ldl/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
