MAASIN CITY, May 10 (PIA) -- A member of the House of Representatives has started to incorporate ongoing efforts at attempts to end the country’s decades-long insurgency problem in governance system, involving all agencies of the government down to the local level, including the private sector.

“Meron na pong mga moves. I believe it’s Rep. Roger Mercado himself who has filed a bill in the House to institutionalize the whole-of-nation approach,” according to Col. Perfecto Peñarondo of the 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

The military officer uttered the remark during the virtual press conference Panindugan Friday hosted by Olive Tiu, PIA regional director, in response to a query on the sustainability of the Task Force-End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC) program beyond the term of President Duterte.

“We believe it should be sustained regardless of whoever takes over the next administration,” he stressed.

“We’re talking of the same nation anyway. Hindi naman malilipat ang Pilipinas, hindi naman siya mababago. Maaring mag-iibang anyo,” Peñarondo said shortly before sharing the information that it was Southern Leyte Lone District Congressman Mercado who started the ball rolling in Congress.

Peñarondo then rallied everyone, calling for support to the initiative of the Southern Leyteño lawmaker.

“So let’s support Congressman Mercado, Sir Oging, na maisulong itong kanyang panukala to institutionalize the whole-of-nation approach para after 2022 tuloy-tuloy itong whole of nation, whole-of-society approach para sa kamurayawan, para sa kaunlaran, ng ating buong sambayanan,” he emphasized.
