MAASIN CITY, Feb. 13 (PIA) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Southern Leyte Provincial Office identified Maasin City as the pilot area for the Philippine ID System (PhilSys) registration for the whole Eastern Visayas region, Chief Statistical Specialist Eutemio A. Llevado Jr said.
"Maasin City will be the pilot area for the PhilSys registration throughout Region 8," he said. Some preparations will still be done before the registration will start, he added.
“PSA office will identify the sectors who will be the first to register as soon as we can search for an office space where the registration will be done,” Llevado said during the meeting held with the Provincial Census Coordinating Board For 2020 Census of Population and Housing at the Provincial Boardroom, here, February 12.
During the registration, a document that will prove one's identity such as a birth certificate is required. A form will also be filled up, he said.
As for now, the statistics department is doing information campaign to inform the public about the processes, requirements among other important documents and information needed for the PhilSys registration.

The new Philippine ID will be used to facilitate for the following: Social welfare and benefits granted by the government; tax- related transactions; admission in schools and government hospitals; and opening of bank accounts, among the few.
