All the municipalities and Maasin City have their own waste management systems. Mostly, garbage is collected from each house through the use of dump trucks to bring the garbage to their respective open dump site. In Maasin City, compactors are also used to collect garbage.

In some LGUs, waste management, specifically in the final disposal system, is not yet conceived because of the unavailability of suitable land areas and the high cost of establishing and maintaining a sanitary landfill. Open dumping, burning, and throwing anywhere and dumping in rivers and seas are most widely practiced in garbage disposal. Existing collection systems and waste management treatment are inadequate and the people are not aware and properly educated on the consequences of improper disposal.
