phso2As of July 31, 2019, there were four hundred twenty-eight (428) reported dengue cases in the province of Southern Leyte. This is 123% higher compared to the same period last year. There were 205 Females and 223 males, Age of cases ranges from 1 month to 64 years old. School age children are the most affected age group. Three deaths were recorded (CFR:0.7%).

Dengue cases in the province continue to increase surpassing the Alert and Epidemic threshold as shown below. Clustering of cases were observed in 17 barangay. The presence of Dengue Virus and high density of mosquito in our communities is the primary cause of the upsurge of dengue cases and is now considered as a health emergency.

Because of this health emergency, Provincial and Local Government Units, Dep.Ed, DILG, Schools and especially the communities are encourage to activate dengue brigade in all barangay and strictly follow the 4S Against Dengue. Simultaneous clean-up drive is recommended for an effective and long term solution to this health problem.
