SOGOD, Southern Leyte, July 19 (PIA) - - Government wifi connections are now up in public places of the first six towns in the province, so far.
According to Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) - Southern Leyte Provincial Field Team Lead Engr Ramil Jeff Taboso, the municipalities of Macrohon, Tomas Oppus, Bontoc, Libagon, San Juan, and Hinundayan, which they have installed with internet signals are now live benefiting the people.
However, Globe lines, the internet provider delivers only 1 mbps instead of 2 mbps speed, he added. The said internet provider, however, has committed to upgrade to a higher bandwidth soon, he said
Among the priority sites identified includes public elementary schools and national high schools, town plazas, community hospitals, rural health units, campuses of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) in Bontoc and Tomas Oppus, he said.
Taboso also assured five more towns, namely, Malitbog, Lilo-an, St. Bernard, Anahawan, Hinunangan, which are cable-ready already will follow suit possibly within the month.
Taboso added that the town of Sogod is cable ready but still due for the corresponding training to operate their internet management this September 3-5 at the Sogod Municipal Conference Room. He said this during his visit at Mayor Imelda Tan’s Office thru Municipal Administrator Martin Lagmay last Wednesday, July 18.
He said Sogod will enjoy nine sites with internet signals, such as the SLSU campus, municipal hall, town plaza, rural health unit, district hospital, bus terminal, public elementary schools and national high schools, and possibly the market area. (ajc/esg/PIA8-SoLeyte)
