MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Mar 14 (PIA) – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) conducted the Poster Making and Essay Writing competition, the first in Maasin City Fire Station in celebration of the month-long Fire Prevention Month.
Fire Officer II Raul Inocando said that the said event participated by junior and senior High School students of Maasin City National High School (MCNHS) will be the pilot activity for the next Fire Prevention Month celebration activities for the next succeeding years. ‘A school-wide” contest will be conducted next year, months before the Fire Prevention Month celebration for March, so that all schools can participate and the winners from each school will compete during the March fire prevention as one of its activities, while the city winner will be brought to the regional competition which was already started twice,” Inocando bared during his opening message before the contest proper. Eight students competed for the essay writing contest while 12 students participated the poster making basing on this year’s theme, “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingatsa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan.” Criteria for the competition were as follows: For Essay Writing is 40% for Theme Relevance, 30% - Presentation and Persuasion, and another 30% for Creativity and Persuasion , with a total of 100%; while for the Poster Making contest, 40% for Theme Relevance, 30% - Creativity and Originality, and 30% for Aesthetic Appeal, totalling to a 100%. The contestants were given ample time to write and the result of the competition to be announced during the culmination activity of the month-long Fire Prevention Month set on March 30, Inocando revealed. Judges for the said contest include Provincial Fire Station Head Ramil Riňos, Maasin City Administrator Jenny F. Ang, Department of Interior and Local Government LGOO Vicente Maraon, and Southern Leyte Times Senior Journalist Dahlia Orit. The opening program, held at MCNHS, was also participated by its school Principal Dinonisio Zamora, school Head Teacher Petronio Urdavisa and BFP Maasin City Fire station staff and the provincial counterpart from the BFP.
