MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Mar 10 (PIA) – The Bureu of Fire Protection-Maasin City Fire Station aims to conduct the “BerongBumberosa Paaralan,” a fire prevention awarness campaign to all schools in Maasin City, Fire officer II Raul Inocando bared.
In a short talk during the Poster Making and Essay Writing Contest held at Maasin City National High School here, Inocando said they had already started conducting the “BerongBumberosa Paaralan” since the start of Fire Prevention Month activities this March 2017. Based on the this year’s theme, “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pang-iingatsa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan,” Inocando informed that the high school students were taught on how to use fire extinguishers, cited the common causes of fire and how to prevent it, how to act when fire is already there, among other preventive measures which should start among themselves and in the house. BFP-Maasin City Fire Station is targeting a fire-free and fire safe Maasin City, Inocando told. As of this writing, they had visited private schools in the locality, such as Maasin Christian Academy, Saint Joseph College, College of Maasin and national high schools in barangays Baugo, Bato II and Nati Multi Grade School where the local firefighters lectured on fire secutiry and safety, Inocando said. It was leanred that the “BerongBumbero” is conceptualized from the BFP’s Icon which is named Berong. The city's fire revention for the month of March this year, lined up activities such as fire drills at selected establishments in the locality, Refresher Training for Fire Volunteers; Open house for elementary school pupils; Fire Safety Seminar at Parole and Probation Office; Blood Letting activity in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross-Southern Leyte Chapter; unity walk and zumba exercises during the kick off ceremony, poster making, and essay writing contests for Junior and Senior High School students, among others.(ajc/rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
