MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Feb. 18  (PIA) - Edmund Rice Services (ERS), a non-government organization, conducted a Parent-Youth Relationship Enrichment (PYRE) encounter among Grade 10 students of Maasin City National High School (MCNHS). The activity was done in two batches with the first batch held February 10-11, and the second batch, Feb. 17-18, at the MCNHS grounds in barangay Combado, this city.

The said activity was carried in three sessions, with much time devoted to reflection on one’s inner self and that of the family. On day one the students, after having reflected on their inner selves, expressed their emotions through drawings or sketches and pictures. During the second day, the parents were present and attended a separate session that focused on their relationship with their children, while the students talked about their parents in another location. Later in the day, the parents and students had time for themselves, sharing and expressing their thoughts through hugs and letters. Some were given the opportunity to speak regarding their role as a parent and as a son or daughter, and about the relationship with each other. To formally end the two-day activity, a Mass was held right after the parent-child encounter. PYRE was intended to re-strengthen and enrich communication and relationship among students and their parents. ERS, the NGO, has been known as an active partner in conducting parent-youth encounter and retreats among schools, it was learned.  (ajc/b.sarmen/mmp/PIA8-Southern Leyte)
