MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte February 16 (PIA) - The Department of Education (DepEd) works with other government agencies to help underpriviliged learners. It partners with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to further equip Alternative Learning System (ALS) passers with financial assistance.

This was learned from SEPS Lina M. Gayas, during the PIA Action center cable TV program,  who sought the assistance of DOLE so that ALS passers can continue to move on after the education enhancement by their department. Gayas reported that according to DOLE Technical Support and Services Division Chief, Engr Emmanuel de la Cruz, the Livelihood or Kabuhayan Program under DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP), can also be availed by ALS Learners and passers during the ALS Colloquium held in Tomas Oppus last February 10, 2017. Another DOLE program introduced was the SPES program, which is open to poor but deserving students to help them pursue their education by encouraging their employment during summer and or Christmas break, Gayas added. Other government agencies like DSWD and TESDA were also invited to discuss about their respective programs and projects, she concluded. (esg/PIA8 SoLeyte)
