MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Feb. 16 (PIA) -- A total of 373 Authorized Barangay Electricians (ABEs) who underwent and passed the examination conducted by the Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO) Inc. are serving as authorized electricians by the said cooperative for the whole province of Southern Leyte.
Their authorization came after the examination conducted by SOLECO Institutional Services Department and are renewable every year, SOLECO reported. These barangay electricians authorized by SOLECO are not employees of the cooperative, however, they are constantly being updated on good house-wiring practices, policies of the coop in relation to house-wiring and new connection guidelines, the report added. SOLECO said that they are allies of the coop institutional team in assisting people who would like to apply for electric connection services. It was learned that these ABEs are authorized to wire inside houses/establishments only. Wiring outside of the house, that is from the kWh meter to the tapping point is already the jurisdiction of SOLECO. Unless the board of SOLECO will allow these ABEs through a resolution, they do not have the right to tap, remove, relocate or do anything in the kWh meter, the source added. (rgc/PIA8-SoLeyte)
