MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte February 16 (PIA) – She just turned 100 years old on January 20 this year. “ Eat fish and no red meat,“ Flaviana Plateros from Barangay Tagnipa disclosed when asked how to become a healthy centenarian.
Plateros together with Primitiva Dizon, 101 years old from Bato II and Simeona Basa, 102 years old from Mantahan, all of Maasin City, will be the first three senior citizens so far from the city to avail the new law, Republic Act 10868. Under the law, all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 will receive a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines and a P100,000 cash gift, whether they are residing in the Philippines or abroad, it was learned. Each of them will soon receive their P100,000.00 cash gift from the national government thru the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), according to Jocelyn Baloran, a staff member of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) of Maasin City. Baloran disclosed that the three centenarians are awaiting their bounties while City Social Welfare and Development Officer Febe Maria Sta Cruz facilitated the processing of their claims at DSWD-8.(esg/PIA8 SoLeyte)
